882 sbc heads
Here's the situation. These are going into a 5000 lb truck. I'm really after torque. This winter, I'm putting a cam, intake (Performer RPM), and headers on. The truck currently has 882 heads. Some guys say the 200cc runners on these heads act like smaller runners at low rpm, is this true? The 882 head may have out-flowed this head but with the addition of larger 2.02-inch intake valves and some decent pocket port work these heads will out flow the 882's. Keep in mind that with a small 155cc port volume these heads are great for making torque.

Mar 25, 2003 · andybird. it is common to use up to .480 lift cams with 882 heads, use the Z-28 type valve springs, watch for retainer to guide clearance, most will clear if you use an umbrella or o-ring type seal, do not use the tin shields or valve rotators on the springs. You will have to shim the exhaust spring seats,Check for stock rocker to stud clearance,with 10.5:1 cr, a compcam 292H, proper valve springs, headers, performer rpm intake, and a holley 750, those heads could make 380 to 400hp. But you would also need 4.11 gears and a 3000 rpm stall converter. That same engine with a set of dart 200cc iron eagles or a set of 195 afr's would make 450hp. GM cars must utilize 76cc heads (approved head numbers are 336, 339, 388, 441, 454, 487, 624, 813, 882, 991 and 993).
